Accompaniment
William has accompanied several choirs, ensembles and solo performances. He accompanies regularly for ABRSM and Trinity graded exams. His ability to play by ear and improvise has been most helpful in accompanying for school concerts. In his first year of higher education he won the Royal Northern College of Music's Accompanist Prize at the Onken Vocal Competition. Other notable groups William has been involved with include the University of Manchester's Choir And Orchestra Society, the Sandwell Music & Arts Service, and more recently Services for Education (Birmingham Music Service). From 2015-2019 William often accompanied for the Birmingham Festival Choral Society. Since 2022 he has been accompanist for Birmingham-based choir Notorious.
Performance
William was taught the piano by Carolyn Tailby and won many local competitions in Birmingham, Dudley, Lichfield and Northfield before earning a place at Chetham's School of Music where he then studied with Peter Lawson. After successfully auditioning for the highly prestigious Joint Course in Manchester, he studied piano with Dina Parakhina at the Royal Northern College of Music and academic music at the University of Manchester. During this time he played in several concerts and gigs around Manchester as a soloist as well as with the D'Avanzo Piano Quartet. Notable solo performances include a recital performing Mussorgsky's "Pictures At An Exhibition" at St. Werburgh's Church, Manchester, and Shostakovich's "Piano Concerto No.2 in F" with the University of Manchester's amateur Choir And Orchestra Society. He participated in Old Swinford Hospital's staff recital series, his last performance there showcasing William's talents with his own suite arrangement of music from Bernstein's "West Side Story", and performing music from the video game "Final Fantasy XIII" accompanied by projected cut-scenes from the game. Since his departure from Old Swinford Hospital William has continued to perform classical repertoire at concerts around the West Midlands, most recently in a charity concert held at St. Hilda's Church in Warley Woods where he played excerpts from Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker". He upholds a tradition of hosting student concerts in Christmas and Summer where he also performs. Although he has been trained as a classical musician, William is also able to arrange and play film, pop and lounge music by ear. This also makes him an exceptional pianist for restaurants, weddings and other events.
